Tyler Tuesdays: 30 Years From Now

1980:
  • Reagan takes office
  • War on Drugs to combat increased cocaine and heroine
  • Women more prevelant in the work place
  • Disco ending
  • Tobacco usage decline
Today:
For most Americans, life is good. Our involvement in a war is outside of the US border. Previously shunned ideas and practices are being accepted. We're leaving a recession. No major drought or famine.
What will this country be like in 30 years?
It's still funny to think of 1980 as being 30 years ago. My mind is seemingly stuck in 99-2000.
I wonder about what will be big, what will be obsolete, and what will be in. For instance, Wal Marts are big. VHS and CDs are near obsolete. Living relaxed is gradually becoming in.
In 30 years, will Wal Mart still be big, or possibly Amazon.com? Will the internet through a desktop computer be obsolete? Will never leaving the house because everything you could possibly need is available for delivery or streamed to the computer be in?

Sarah and I wonder about this because my career right now is based around the internet. How much growth potential is there in this market? When I begin my career in marketing, will these skills I've developed be of use in 30 years?

Is today how you would have expected it, 30 years ago?

  1. Yay for the first Tyler Tuesday! Goodness, though... you've already gone like 20,000 leagues deeper than I have! So, maybe I'm a shallow blogger... Ah, well. Such is life.

  3. My mind is stuck in 99-2000 as well Tyler; I always get a weird feeling when I realize how far away that was.
Ya'll are a good balance, I am one sided haha

  4. Love the post, Tyler! I don't think I ever really thought about my expectations for what things would be like in 2009. I'm not a very "cutting edge" type of girl, so that's mainly why I never thought of it. What year was it that the Jetsons were playing out on that cartoon? Wasn't it 2010? If so, I guess cars as we know them are going to be obsolete pretty soon. hehe!

But seriously, the good thing about you (at least what I think to be you) is that you will contantly grow and learn. It doesn't really matter what field you start out in as long as you stay current and get trained on new technology as it comes out. Your skills will always be of use! Leon can speak more to that, I'm sure...
